Documents Required for Personal Loan in Bangalore: Salaried vs Self-Employed (2026)

You've submitted your file. Bank calls you two days later and asks for one more paper. You send it. Then they ask for another. Ten days gone, the money still hasn't come, and the person who told you "personal loan is easy, only Aadhaar and PAN needed" has stopped picking up your call.

This is the most common story we hear in Bengaluru. Not rejection — the slow death of a file that keeps sprouting new document demands.

Here's the truth nobody says clearly. The document list depends on three things: whether you're salaried or self-employed, which bank or NBFC your file lands with, and how clean your income trail is. Get those three right and your file moves in three to five working days. Get them wrong and you'll spend three weeks sending papers.

First, the mistake that costs you the most time

Most people search "personal loan documents" and collect whatever a random website lists. That list was written for salaried IT employees. If you're self-employed and you submit that set, the credit officer takes one look at your file and sends it back — because you've given him nothing that proves your income.

That's the confusion I'm talking about. Wrong document means the file goes back, and the clock restarts. Every time a file comes back, it goes to the bottom of the queue. In Bengaluru, where every bank branch is sitting on a pile of files, the bottom of the queue is not where you want to be.

So let's split it properly.

If you are salaried

You are the easier file. But "easier" is not "automatic," and I see salaried people make the same three mistakes repeatedly.

The documents that actually matter

PAN card and Aadhaar are the base. Make sure your name spelling matches exactly across both, and matches your salary account name. A mismatch of even a letter triggers a verification loop that eats a week.

Last three months' salary bank statements — and this is where most Bengaluru salaried files lose time. The bank is looking for your salary credit date, your net credit amount, and whether you have existing EMIs being debited. If you switched jobs two months ago, or if your salary comes from a payroll company whose name differs from your employer's name, expect a query. Plainly: the bank wants to see three consecutive salary credits that look the same.

Last two or three months' payslips. Banks want them stamped or signed in many cases, and if your company issues payslips through a portal, a screenshot is not a payslip. Download the proper PDF.

Form 16 for the last financial year — usually asked for, and it's the cleanest proof of your declared income. If you joined mid-year and don't have one yet, your appointment letter and your joining-date proof do the job instead. Tell your lender this upfront rather than letting him find out.

Your current company's offer letter or appointment letter, especially if you've been in the job under a year.

Some banks also want the last six months of statements instead of three, and a few want an employee ID card or a company email verification. This varies by lender and by your profile — this is exactly the thing your facilitator is supposed to know before submission.

The Bengaluru salary reality you should know

If you're in the IT/ITES belt — Whitefield, Electronic City, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Hebbal — your employer likely has a tie-up with certain banks, and there's usually a pre-approved offer sitting on your net banking or on your salary bank's app. That offer will almost always beat a cold application on rate and speed.

Check that first. Before you collect any document, open your salary bank's app and see what it's willing to give you. I've seen people spend a week gathering papers for a bank that would have given them the money in 48 hours.

If you're on contract payroll, or working through a staffing company at a big tech campus, your file gets flagged as contract staff. Some lenders treat this differently from a direct employee, and your documents need to reflect the reality clearly. Don't hide it — it comes out anyway, and hiding it is the fastest way to get a rejection on your record.

If you are self-employed

This is where 70% of the confusion lives, so read this section twice.

The document set is completely different

You will need PAN and Aadhaar, yes. But your income proof is another animal altogether.

Last two years' ITR with computation of income — this is your main document. The bank checks your declared income, and it checks that you're not showing a heavy drop from one year to the next.

Last twelve months' business bank statements — and this is the number one reason self-employed files die in Bengaluru. Your statement and your ITR must tell the same story. If your business account shows twelve lakhs of turnover and your ITR declares six lakhs of income, the credit officer immediately spots a mismatch and your file stalls.

I see this constantly. Traders in Peenya, garment and wholesale people around KR Market and Chickpet, small manufacturers in Bommasandra — the turnover is real, but a big chunk is cash, so the ITR under-reports. The bank doesn't care that your business is genuinely healthy. It reads documents, not your shop.

Business registration proof — GST certificate if you're registered, shop and establishment licence, or your Udyam registration. Whatever proves the business exists on paper.

Business address proof — often the same as your home address for a proprietorship, and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company bill or a rental agreement works.

Your business structure changes your file

A proprietor is treated as one entity and your personal income and business income blur together, which is often easier. A private limited needs its own financials, and someone signing for the company needs authority. A one-person consultant — the weekend freelancer with an LLP or nothing at all — often gets classified the way a salaried file is, if your bank credits a stable monthly amount.

This is where a serious facilitator earns his money. Your documents need to be presented the way the specific lender wants them read. Same income, different packaging, different decision.

The part people mix up: this is not a business loan

Here's the split, and if you take one thing from this post, take this.

If you're taking a personal loan, you're borrowing as an individual. The bank sees you, your personal income, and your personal repayment capacity. Your business exists only as proof that your income is real.

If you're taking a business loan or MSME loan, now the bank is lending to the business. That means business financials, business bank statements, GST returns, and usually something more — collateral, or a co-applicant, or a stronger vintage requirement. The personal loan route is faster because the verification is on you. The business loan route takes longer because it verifies the shop.

So a self-employed person should not automatically assume he needs a business loan. If your ticket size is modest and your personal income trail is clean, a personal loan as a self-employed individual is often the faster road. Ask that question before you start collecting.

What actually speeds up your file

Submit the full set in one go. The single biggest cause of delay is sending documents in a drip — one today, one tomorrow. Every partial submission sends your file back for re-review.

Get your name and address consistent across PAN, Aadhaar, bank accounts and your company records. Half the Bengaluru files we fix are stuck purely on a spelling or an address mismatch.

Disclose your existing EMIs before the bank finds them. Your statements show them anyway. If you have three live EMIs and you hide it, that's straightforward rejection. If you declare them and your income supports it, you often sail through.

And know your CIBIL before anyone pulls it. If it's weak, fix the small things first — a settled old card, a wrong overdue entry — because a fresh rejection stays on your file and colours the next four applications.

What we do before your file leaves our desk

We check your documents against the exact lender we're routing you to, not a generic list. We flag the mismatch before the credit officer flags it. And if your profile is better suited to a different bank or to the business loan route instead, we tell you that upfront rather than after a rejection.

You don't need to guess which papers to collect.

Send your basic details on WhatsApp and we'll tell you exactly which documents your profile needs, and which lender fits it best. No fee to ask, no obligation to proceed.
